I am fully impressed, completely in awe. I have to give it to Robert Pattinson, I never imagined he could be this good. Who knew the kid had it in him? When I heard he was going to be playing Dalí I wasn't all that stoked. So, I kept (mistakenly) looking to see if Edward Cullen turned out during Little Ashes, to my very pleasant surprise... he never did. His acting is flawless, he absolutely sold it to me. I could have bought a broken toaster from him had he been this convincing, seriously. He makes a wonderful young Salvador Dalí and Javier Beltrán makes an excellent companion. Also, Marina Gatel is downright perfect in that supporting role.
The story is quite touching, and just dramatic enough. Paul Morrison's vision and Suschitzky's photography meet perfectly in every way. I believe it is an amazing interpretation of the story (and history).
I have a confession to make: As of today I profess myself an unconditional Rob Pattinson fan. (I even think he's kind of hot now).
Also, this really amazing Dalí quote came up in the movie. I'd heard it before, but I love it so, here it is:
"It's like even then I realized. If I am going to be anything more than average; if anyone is going to remember me, then I need to go further in everything. In art, in life; in anything that they consider real: morality, immorality, good, bad. I, we, have to smash that into pieces and we have to go beyond that. We have to be brave, Federico. No limits."
- Salvador Dalí
(to Federico García Lorca)
